December is the festive time of the year that most children look forward to as gifts are received and exchanged. More than 100 beneficiaries and their siblings were given the opportunity to bask in the festive mood as well, courtesy of the kind support from various organisations, namely NuSkin, Rio Tinto, Elitez, Toys ‘R’ Us, Singapore Kindness Movement and individuals who volunteered their time and efforts.
Each group was formed by pairing the children in twos to be accompanied by two adult volunteers who were their caretakers for the day. After the bonding session to know one another better, the different groups headed off to Toys ‘R’ Us in three different locations where the children purchased and gift-wrapped a gift for each other. The gift exchange was done over lunch, while more amiable interaction took place within and between groups as the children and volunteers chatted and dined.
One significant revelation after the event was that the gift itself did not matter much, but to the beneficiaries and siblings, it was the display of thoughtfulness and care that counted more.
