Caregivers' Appreciation Day (2014)

  • Jurong Country Club (map)

More than 180 beneficiaries, their siblings and parents and/or caregivers attended the event at Jurong Country Club. Parents and caregivers were engaged in a separate, dedicated workshop conducted by a trainer from Rainbow Centre which focused on connecting through communications and care, and promoting quality interactions using ‘Mindfulness’. The participants shared how they respond in different scenarios with their children or youth, and were given tips on how to better deal with such day-to-day communication with children with special needs.

Concurrently, the beneficiaries and their siblings participated in a Therapeutic Music Workshop to learn movement and creating stories with music. To better accommodate the participants of varying age groups, a Mad Science Workshop was organised for the younger children to flex their creative muscles, while the youth were enriched with knowledge on personality types in a Career Guidance Class.

The tempo for the afternoon was ramped up with a drumming workshop that inculcated values such as teamwork and coordination. The beneficiaries were led by NTU Operation Hope volunteers in a Chocolate Tulip Rose and Card Making craft session where they created a memorable gift for their caregivers.

The event ended on a heart-warming note as parents and caregivers were greeted by the gifts hand-made by their children.
